    silvia dias

    photography

This photographic series by Portuguese artist Sylvia Dias evoke a sense of delicate fragility. The twisted and distorted poses exaggerate the contours of the body with a feeling of vulnerability, leaving the subject open and unprotected, yet the imagery and compositions and soft light offer beauty and serenity. My name is Sílvia Mariana Dias and I was born in Porto, Portugal in 1986. I work and live in my birthcity. I have a degree on Fine Arts and Intermedia and I'm self taught in photography. I don't consider myself a photographer; I use photography as a creation method and a way to reflect and express my feelings. I also work with traditional art, mostly acrylic painting. Most of my influences come from traditional artists.

What I feel that's important in what I do, above anything else, is to please myself. I have to like what I am developing. I try to capture dreams and nightmares; that feeling when we are in a dream and it feels so real!... I try to pass that into what I do. Strange, melancholy, intimist and vulnerable situations attracts me -- I have a strong need of alluring people inside my works and make them feel different and unique feelings.
